There are five different species of rhinoceros. They are the Black Rhinoceros, White Rhinoceros, Indian Rhinoceros, Javan Rhinoceros and Sumatran Rhinoceros.

Over the last 50 million years, rhinos have braved ice ages, prehistoric hyenas and giant crocodiles – and they were once the largest animals on land.

It is estimated that there were 500,000 rhinos across Africa and Asia at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, there are less than 29,000 rhinos in the wild.

Our Mission

Working together with people, companies and governments around the globe to Save the Rhino.

World Rhino Day, RhinoSOS

Rhino SOS is here for one reason and one reason only, to Save the Rhino. We are working hand in hand with Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, the largest rhino orphanage and sanctuary in the world.

Our efforts span the globe, bringing people, companies and governments together to stand side by side in our bid to save the rhino.

We are using education as a tool to fight for the survival of the five species and save the rhino. We feel the more people become aware of the major issues facing this magnificent creature the more people will realize that their very survival now hangs in the balance. The rhino has no other natural predators so the solution is possible.

World Rhino Day, Care For Wild

Founded by Petronel Nieuwoudt in 2001, Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary is the largest orphan rhino orphanage and sanctuary in the world.

Our vision is to secure free-ranging African Rhinoceros in protected sanctuaries across Africa, to ensure the survival of the species for future generations.

Baby rhinos that are orphaned in the wild rarely survive. The mission of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary is to rescue every rhino that is orphaned, to heal them and to provide a totally secure environment where they can grow, roam free, and breed to ensure that there will always be rhinos in Africa.
